Soccer Moms and Hockey Dads: Leveraging Technology to Communicate with Parents
While it’s often a struggle to maintain contact with parents in this fast‐paced, ever‐changing world, effective use of web‐based technology can help. Utilizing free web 2.0 tools can play a role in maintianing strong relationships with families at home and even abroad. Whether it is daily classroom blogs to celebrate learning, sharing class notes that were missed via wikispaces, or a report card being sent home at the touch of a button, technology has made communicating with parents and students much easier, allowing for anywhere, anytime learning. At the dinner table, in the car on the way to work or halfway around the world, parents and students are able to be more connected with what is going on in the classroom.
Please join our on-line chat as we answer any questions you may have in regards to our presentation and the use of "Cover it Live" in the classroom. To participate, just create a username and type in your question or comment. Enjoy!
Instructions:
1. Create a username. I ask the students to make sure that they use their first names within the username. For example, Tanya may create a username of Terrible_Tanya. That way, I KNOW it is her. :-) (If I do not recognize the name, I will not publish the post.)
2. I use this as an editing tool as well. The students know that their comments will likely will not be posted unless they edit their work first.
3. I preview all comments and opinions before posting.
